City Golf@ The Mines

Blog

We had a very successful and eventful day out at the mines this past Saturday in our monthly members outing. We had a great turnout of 28 players and everything ran very smoothly! The course was in good condition as per usual and played quite tough on the day and the score reflected that! I myself lost quite a handful of golf balls to the Lake!

Quite an interesting fact about the Lake which I never knew until Saturday was that it used to be the worlds largest open cast Tin mine! It’s a Robert Trent Jones Jr. Layout which I really enjoy, the golf course cant be overpowered and precision is needed on all your approach shots or you may struggle to come up and down with some very tough pin placements!

Kevan ‘The Bandit’ Bartley as he is now known to the City Golf Members yet again carried first prize home with a very respectable 35 stableford points. He won himself a bottle of 12y/o Singleton Whisky and in true winning fashion, he decided to share the spoils with everyone at City Golf, very kind gesture and the members and I really enjoyed sharing the prize with you! Al Guthrie stumbled into 2nd spot with 33 points and Dave kelly managed somehow to creep into the prizes with only 26 points! Just a show of how tough the golf course played.

We look forward to tying a few more members games into the Rugby World cup next month and there should be many more memorable days out!

Keep an eye open for some tips coming to my blog soon!

City Golf PGA Pro Golf Tip : The Takeaway

Blog

The takeaway in golf is vital, this is the first moving part of the swing that will determine how good or bad the rest may end up. Often a poor takeaway will result in certain positions in the swing being impossible to achieve. Have a look at my video and see how easy it is to check your takeaway and ensure you are in the correct position.

Enjoy the Tip and please come say hello next time you are in City Golf!

Happy Golfing!

Back at City Golf KL!

Blog

For those of you that may not know, I was away on annual leave for the last few weeks, thus the poor updating on my blog. Unfortunately where I was, there is no such thing as 3G, Wifi or even Cell Phone Reception! Myself along with a few friends played a few rounds of Golf at some beautiful golf courses around South Africa, St Francis Links Course takes long rough to a new level! Missed 3 fairways and only found 1 ball! Lucky for us we got some great weather as I have played there before with a howling 70km/h wind, that takes golf to a whole new level!

My Golf was OK and played a few decent games while back home, was really good to play walking golf again, I really think you don’t get the full feel for a golf course on a golf cart. Unfortunately in Malaysia, there isn’t much of an option due to the extreme heat and humidity.

After the golf was over I ventured into another one of my passions, Fishing! this is where we lost all cell signal as we traveled a full day by 4×4 on near un-traversable terrain to get to our fishing spot. Trust me when I say this, there are few places in the world as beautiful as this.

Its always refreshing to go back there and always a trip I look forward two. Stay tuned to my blog for more updates and a tip or two coming soon!

City Golf PGA Pro Driver Tips

Blog

Driving the golf ball is the part of the game all of us enjoy the most, but it’s also the part which gets us into the biggest amount of trouble usually! If you learn how to control your tee shots and hit the fairways with a good powerful drive, you are already ahead of your opponents. One of the biggest key elements in hitting better drives is your setup.

Have a look at my video for some great tips on how you can hit your driver better!

City Golf Chipping Distance Drill:The Umbrella

Blog

Often a very over looked area in the amateurs game is correctly controlling the distance of their short shots around the green. You will often see the pro’s chipping in or if they miss, they leave themselves just a couple of feet for par or birdie. This is of course part skill and mostly hard work and hours spent practicing.

Here is a basic drill for how you can practice in your own back yard! I have seen great results from many clients using this method and if done correctly you can be sure you will drop shots off your scores.

Try and vary the distances you chip from and clubs you use, remember chipping and short game is all about imagination and feel, don;t be scared to try new clubs and please try steer away from the 60 degree unless you absolutely have to use it!

Have a great Golfing Week!

City Golf Lesson: The Explanar

Blog

Good day Fellow Golfers,

Have a look at  my video demonstrating the ‘Explanar’ teaching aid. I have found this tool invaluable in training my students and giving them a real feel of the correct swing plane and rotation. I use this on a daily basis training my students and have seen great results from it.

Please feel free to pop in anytime and i will give you a demonstration on how myself with my training tools and techniques can help your golf game.

City Golf Members Outdoor Game: Saujana Impian

Blog

We had a lovely days Golfing at Impian Golf and Country Club on Saturday. We ended up having a total of 15 Players in four flights tee off on a scorcher of a day. We were lucky enough to evade the rain as well and only heard a few rumbles of thunder which soon disappeared. The golf course was quite tricky for the first timers and the small quick greens seemed to get the better of many of the golfers, what a great little course though. We will be sure to have a few more games there in the upcoming months. After the days Golfing we headed back to city Golf for some pizza and a few beers and ended up playing some more golf on the simulators!
