The City Golf Social was played on Wednesday 5th September 2012. The standard format of “Ryder Cup Style Alternate Shot Strokeplay” was used, however the participants were treated to a couple of extra’s along the way. A couple of ASAHI Promo Girls were used to keep the players well hydrated. After dinner it is always a good idea to leave space for desert, so the players were treated to some Jelly with a “touch of jet-fuel”!
Unfortunately we lost two teams to KL traffic. City Golf has never been known to leave a soldier behind, but play had to go on. 10 teams teed it up and hammered their way around The Old Course at St Andrews’ back nine.
The competition was heated with a lot of jostling for the top spots. Only those who were there to witness Jim Arroyo make an incredible 10 footer on the 18th for par will know. The tension was palpable. You could cut the air with a knife. Yes dear friends of City Golf, this was a putt for the win!
Prizes were kindly sponsored by SRIXON, and the boys walked away with a great SRIXON hat as well as a couple of sleeves of balls for their great play to win on a score of 2 under par. They also walk away with another handicap cut. They will now both be playing off 8 handicaps.
James Drummond made a fiery return to the City Golf Social, and teamed up with Felipe Rimis to achieve a very admirable 1 under par total for second spot. Geoff McLaws and Jon Goddard rounded up the podium positions on 4 over par. Well played gents!
The Nearest the Pin had a slightly different “SPIN” on it this month. Players were asked to place their foreheads on the butt of the club, spin around 3 times, and then try to make contact with the ball. Hilarity ensued, and some great videos were taken which I have in my possession and can be purchased from the bar at City Golf! Gary managed to hit the sphere to 20 feet or so from the pin and took the win. He won himself a SRIXON hat and a couple of golf balls to help ease his spinning brain.
A great night was had by all, and we look forward to hosting the next one with even more fun and excitement.
