Yes, your eyes do not deceive you, the subject’s correct. Although we’re a golfing establishment we do love other sports! We recently organized a City Golf’s Go Kart Challenge a few nights ago where we had 20 drivers competing for the title. Thrown into the mix were 4 ladies and they certainly were no pushovers!
Finding the place was the first challenge for many of them as the Sepang Go Kart signs weren’t properly lit. The practice session kicked off with many of the drivers pushing their go-karts as though they were already racing – boys will be boys!
During the qualifiers, some of the drivers treated it as a bumper car race for some reason, in an attempt to generate more excitement. Sean Niven secured pole with a timing of 1 minute 11 seconds. City Golf was represented by Tom who took the 7th position from pole.
Al of The Old Clubhouse who previously requested that sugar bags be distributed among the lighter drivers, placed on their karts to equalize the weight distribution, was not needed after all as the weighty Al secured second place. Here’s the qualifier result:
The 20 drivers: Sean Niven, Al Guthrie, Nick Pugh, Jeremy Button, LC, Charles Hoare, Tom Sarginson, Daniel Franklin, Steve Volker, Geoff McClaws, Rick Currin, Masz Kamaruddin, Desmond See, James Wang, Nick Cain, Dave Tully, Philippa, James White and Iminda.
Sean Niven emerged as the champion, followed by Al Guthrie of The Old Clubhouse and Charles Hoare completing the podium. They each received cash prizes. Of course, we didn’t forget the last place finish, Victor Hoffmann of Total Sports Asia, whose kart gave up on him half way through the race, forcing him to retire. He walked away with an Asahi glass to claim a drink at City Golf BSC.
Here’s the final result:
The next City Golf Go-Kart Challenge is being planned for August 2012. Stay tuned.
